THE DELPHIS OPERATION and International Cooperation

Operation Delphis is an international nautical event ofmarine guardianship which has taken place in july every year

since 1997 in the Mediterranean sea, particularly in the area of

the “Cetaceans Sanctuary', officially created by the Governments

of Italy, France and the Principality of Monaco.

Every year, alongside Battibaleno, mariners both professional and recreational, put their vessels and expertise at service of the

environment.

The object is to make the greater public more aware of the

richness and diversity of marine mammals in the Mediterranean.

To create a real 'festival of the sea' within this event.

On the same day at the same time, to position the participating

vessels at correctly divided up observation points, using precise

coordinates.

To achieve an 'ecological' panoramic snapshot of the sanctuary,

which will obtain thanks to the data collected by the Delphis

Fleet, precious information of the richness of life in our seas,

all of extreme use to the scientific community.

To disclose publicly the results of our research into the

richness and biodiversity of the marine mammals of this area and

of the importance of protecting the life of this our common heritage.... >>>

Dolphins and whales have been very important in the Mediterranean and Black Sea history; they are still numerous in these seas as the universal symbol

of a living and healthy sea.

The presence of dolphins and whales naturally enhances the beauty and quality of the sea, coasts and shores of our great common heritage represented by the Mediterranean and Black Sea.
